Perhaps someone can humor my current curiosity. What's a European Craigslist or Autotrader equivalent that might let me search for 25-year-old/older cars that one could theoretically purchase on a trip to Europe, drive to the port, and pick up? If location makes a huge difference, let's say Germany as one location and the south of France as another.

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk
Not just in Europe, in the world. This site, from what I've seen, is second to none.

I think they just use ad space in the backs of newspapers and push boards in super markets still

For Germany, mobile.de is good. There's another I'm currently forgetting, but I'm sure someone will fill in the blank.

In the UK, I mainly just use AutoTrader, though I imagine you'd probably rather something distinctly less right-hand-drive than what we generally have on offer here.
For the Continent, autoscout24 might be your best bet. I've seen a couple of other European Jalops recommend it.

SL300/320?
Are you going to be looking for an R129?

This is my go-to website for when I'm looking for a classic or semi-classic car.
I get like a kid in a candy shop.

I'm just window shopping at the moment, but a stick shift, straight-six R129 (the 3.0-liter, I guess, because the 3.2 isn't old enough yet) has a high place in the list of hypotheticals (also includes manual W124 wagon, Euro E24, and a few others). One of the handful of manual US cars came up for sale near me a few months ago, and I've been thinking about them a lot since then.

I feel like I've seen links to mobile.de, so maybe that was one of the ones I was thinking of originally. Thanks!

http://www.mobile.de/ or http://www.autoscout24.de/ , and of course e-bay.
Ads on mobile cost a few euros so there are more cars from dealerships there, ads on autoscout are free so more private sales.

I own an R129 SL600 Sport and 505Turbeaux used to own an SL500. If you have any questions, Im sure you could page either of us for answers about anything and at worst we can point you in the right direction.
